Programme

Programme Format

World Urban Development Council

Meets each year at the occasion of the Congress, to anticipate the major trends and issues in urban policy. (upon invitation)

Plenary and keynote sessions

Give the floor to high-level speakers who enter into in-depth discussions with the audience. Keynotes present strategies, detail options, evaluate the criteria for success and offer recommendations for future development.

Urban Workshops

Innovation is not only about inventing, but implementing best solutions that shape urban development. There will be 5 workshops on Tuesday the 8th of November. 3 of them (A,B,C) are divided into 4 sub-sessions (4 speakers each session) to investigate 3 different aspects of the main topic, followed by a roundtable of synthesis. Workshop D will be divided into 2 different sessions (1/2 day) and its concluding roudntable, while workshop E is a half-day urban trip. All participants are invited to attend the sessions to create a platform to formulate effective solutions and to explore new ones matching the needs of urban stakeholders.

Concluding Roundtables

The roundtable will take place at the end of the workshops on Tuesday 8th from 16h30 to 18h00. The aim is to organize a creative debate, where the value of the exercise lies mostly in the transversal discussions with speakers and moderators from the different sessions of the day. Each roundtable starts with an introduction by the animator of the theme of the workshop, followed by reactions from the speakers and moderators, each no more than 5 minutes. After a second round of debate there is time for questions from the audience.

The metropolitan area is punctuated by flows that determine both its economic vitality, its inclusion in a regional or global system and the quality of life for its inhabitants. Today, access times characterize cities as well as the physical occupation of space: access time to connect to major international cities, access times to stations and airports, time to journey on intercity routes and time of access to urban or suburban neighbourhoods.

Urban conference D2: Exit? The dreamed and fragile touristic destinations +

    Economy

    Stade des Alpes - Grenoble
Tourism is, for many remote places or islands, the main vector of development, and it impacts deeply on the organization of the territory, from the spatial, financial and even political points of view. Being a highly competitive business, tourism needs to questions its own content and practices to ensure its own sustainability. To make tourism a key factor of balanced development, a marker of solidarity between territories, implies a critical assessment of governance and planning process of these fragile territories.
