Liability & Insurance
It is highly recommended that all participants carry proper travel and health insurance. The organisers will not take any responsibility for damage or injury to persons and property during the Congress.
Climat
According to Météo France our region boasts 24 different climates. On average the Rhone Alps has twice as much rainfall as any other French region and with its 7000 km of water sources, it is no wonder that water is such a dominant feature. However, this oceanic influence is subdued by the barrier of the Massif Central to the west, the Mediterranean currents in the south and the Alps to the east. Within the region's borders such contrasting climates are impressive: in just a few kilometres it is possible to go from a damp climate to a very dry one. Similarly the mountain weather (wet) is diametrically opposed to that in Montélimar (Mediterranean - hot and dry). The corridor formed by the Saône and Rhône valleys, effectively the Rhone Alps' backbone, is relatively dry.
Currency
France uses the euro. As to denominations of the currency, there are ¬ 5, ¬ 10, ¬ 20, ¬ 50, ¬ 100, ¬ 200 and ¬ 500 notes, and ¬ 0.01, ¬ 0.02, ¬ 0.05, ¬ 0.10, ¬ 0.20, ¬ 0.50 (amounts under ¬ 1 are called cents), ¬ 1 and ¬ 2 coins. Many businesses will not accept notes larger than ¬ 50 because of counterfeit money in circulation.
Credit cards
Credit cards are widely accepted, although in some small shops or hotels there might be an extra charge (2-6%). If you pay by credit card, a passport may be required.
Electricity
The normal electricity supply is 220 volts. Type E plug is used. CEE 7/5. France standardized on a round plug with two round pins. This standard will also accept Europlug (type C) and CEE 7/17 plugs. Sockets are installed with the earth pin upwards.
Emergency services
France has adopted the common European emergency number 112. Fire services are in charge of 112. Languages spoken (with translators) are the European Union languages.
Other emergency numbers are:
17 - Police
15 - Emergency Medical Services
18 - Fire Brigade
Passports and Visas
Participants and escorts who need a visa to enter France should apply for it in advance at the Consulate Office or Embassy at their place of residence.
